I'm gonna take this chance to talk about the culture of women. It is heartbreaking to me the competition that consists among women young and old; something about society has provided a veritable breeding ground for woman on woman hate. I am not saying that I am immune, I am just cognizant. It ranges from all angles and places. For example, I heard all of the backlash from Tina Fey's turn on hosting Saturday Night Live, and honestly...it pisses me off. Not for the reason you may think. I actually didn't see said episode, but I'd like to comment anyway. I am so tired of women placing other women on a pedestal only to fall for their enjoyment. In fact, I don't like the idea of a woman to represent all women. Yes, Tina Fey is funny and she is smart and she is pretty and I love her. AND YES, she lost twenty pounds to get on tv, but you know what? I don't give a fuck. Pardon my french. Tina Fey is her own woman and she shouldn't have to hold the responsibility of all women on her shoulders. I do not wish her that. I do not wish anyone that. We don't need a single woman to be OUR woman. We are all our woman, as trite as it may sound. Men don't have someone to represent them [and yes, you may say they don't need it like we do, but I don't agree], we don't need it either.
I have decided to make a conscious effort to support the women around me. To not begrudge and be jealous of them, but to raise them up in what little ways I can. Something as little as stopping a woman on the street to tell her I like her shoes. I know it makes my day when someone else compliments me, especially when it's another woman. Unfortunately, I have given those stares of disapproval to other women in public, and even received them myself, but I refuse to do it anymore. I will not propagate hate.
To be so bold, I should be the change I want to see in the world. Because really, all I can change is me.
