Hey, hey, the Emmys!

 

Surprising myself I have to say that this is my favorite dress of the evening.  I would never have expected to favor this color, but it just looked so bright and fresh and really stood out to me.  Julianne Moore also pulled off the color, but I loved the shape and ruching of this Monique Lhuillier dress more.

 

Kat Dennings looks so beautiful in this J. Mendel and the red is a perfect pairing for her milky skin and dark hair, but, and I hate to say it, her body is just not meant for this cut.  I can speak for the larger-chested ladies and I know what it feels like to lose weight and fit into dress shapes you've only looked at from afar for years, BUT that doesn't mean you should wear them.  I'll give her a pass, but I won't stop staring at her boobs.

 

Relaxed and radiant, Claire Danes can do wrong.   Even while saying "holler" and "baby daddy" in Lanvin. 

 

 What a terrible picture and I'm afraid I have to say Sarah Paulson looks better as a blonde, yet I still loved this Reem Acra gown.  It looked striking on my tv screen and like something any girl would love to wear.

And DAYUM did Tina Fey not look bangin' in this Carolina Herrera custom gown.  Girl really stepped it out. 

Here are all of the notes I took during the ceremony before giving up and living vicariously with strangers on Twitter:

• Julie Bowen - Don’t make a speech saying how ridiculously easy your job is.  It’s embarrassing.  
• Amy Poehler’s bit during Julia’s win.  So funny and great to get a real feeling that these ladies are all rooting for one another.  
• Connie Britton’s hair is a lesson in not knowing yourself.  I understand wanting to do something different.  But NO.

Day Trip Dress.

What a sweet little dress.  $48, ladies!

Let's all wear dresses as much as we can before the summer is over. 

That's a pact I could get behind.  Not like that pregnancy pact.  You remember that?  I was desperate to be like and liked by my friends in high school (well, really anyone in high school), but not desperate enough to pop out a baby.  That's some level of crazy, fools.  Just think about all those high school boys shakin in their boots. 

Weird.

Let's just wear dresses, okay?   

Outfit Tuesdays: Summer in the City.

It's been SWELTERING in the city this summer.  If the story box (tv for those who aren't ridiculous) is to be believed it's been hot everywhere.  The world is ending and I stand by the fact that I called this beyond balmy summer way back when everyone was rejoicing over the mild winter.  Extreme weather, folks; it's real.  Al Gore ain't lying.  

I'd be way more upset if I didn't recently move into a place with a pool.  That pool is riiiillllll nice.  

While not lounging at the pool I'd be running around in a breezy dress with fabulous patterns and a pop or two of color.  Is everyone else dying over that Marc Jacobs watch??  I can't stop scrolling up and staring like it's my long-lost love.

The Globes!

It was kind of boring, yes?  My favorite moment of the night, by far, was this:

If you didn't watch the show, Amy and Tina were nominated in the same category and this is Tina stealing into Amy's shot after they announced her name.  I loved it!

I also very much enjoyed Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy's little diddy they sang while presenting.  How did they manage to make that charming and not cloying?

Ricky Gervais was more subdued, but still managed to make me laugh a few times.  Some of the speeches were super endearing and Ben Kingsley's wife oooooobviously had some champagne and was feeling a bit randy.

Now!  Onto the dresses.  The most important part, right?

I feel like there was a lot of the same thing we've always seen.  (Doesn't Kate Beckinsale always wear that dress??)  Some good, some bad, and lots in between.

Reese Witherspoon looked like Jessica Rabbit and I loved it; newlywed looks good on this girl!  Sophia Vergara Pulled. It. OUT and no one could look away.  That woman could be the devil incarnate and nobody would care.  Even Tina Fey threw on some color and poof for the party.

In the interest of brevity, here are my three favorites of the evening:

First and FOREMOST, Charlize Theron.  DAMN.  She managed to look both ethereal and fierce all at the same time.  And usually I HATE the tiara, headband thing, but she managed to even pull that off.  I don't think she's ever looked better.

Secondly, Salma Hayek who turned into a disco queen for the evening.  I loved how her ombre hair mirrored the dress and she definitely stood out from all the rest of the ballgowns on the red carpet.  Well done, Salma.  Well done.  I want to wear this dress while lounging around my apartment. 

And, lastly, Octavia Spencer.  I'm so impressed when you see a real woman's body on the red carpet dressed so well.  The ruching was perfection and the color couldn't look better on her.  And she won!  Which made Melissa McCarthy cry!  I saw her interviewed and she said last year she was collecting money for a Golden Globes pool and this year she was nominated AND WON.  Stories like that make me so happy.

 

Otherwise, I don't see what y'all see in that Angelina dress -- it looks pretty terrible to me.  I was really excited Laura Dern won (she's SO GOOD in Enlightened!) and I thought she looked lovely.  Dame Helen Mirrin looked A-MAZ-ING.  Lea Michele looked like a forty-year-old trying too hard, and she is still posing too hard, too.  It's cringe-worthy.

And that's all I can remember at this point.

OH WAIT.  Diana Agron -- NOOOOO.

Snow Weekend.

It's the first real snow of the season (quite late this year!).  And I can promise you I won't ever look this pretty running around in it.  Well, I don't usually make it a habit to run around in wedding gowns.  That's what that is, right?

Anyway, I'm linkless today because most of them are on my work computer and I forgot to send them home.  Next week, for sure!

Comfortable Beauty.

I'm tired, ladies and gentlemen (ha!).  And this is one fantastically relaxed ball gown.  If I had someplace fancy to be, I would like to be as relaxed and glorious as this fair lady.  Can you imagine being comfortable AND gorgeous at the ball all at the same time??

A Blue Birthday (not a sad one).

If you are a size 10 with $134 to spend jump on over to The Outnet because this Halston Heritage dress is on sale and it's gorgeous.  Almost as gorgeous as you would be in it. 

I was trying to come up with something a bit more masculine because TODAY is my BROTHER'S BIRTHDAY!!  Sorry, bro.  I'm obviously not very good at the masculine, but I hope you have a fantastic day!

Beauty at its best.

This is still one of my all-time favorite looks.  Girl has never looked better.  Well, maybe that mustard dress she wore at the Oscars with Heath Ledger.  Remember how beautiful and glowing she was that night?  

We all forget the daisy dress, Michelle.  We all forget!

The Sartorialist.

The Sartorialist has been rocking it out recently, yes?  These ladies remain perfectly styled through the heat wave, color me impressed. 

I basically just curse and spit in the heat.  Well, not really spit, but there sure is a lot of cursing. 

And I don't look nearly as cute as these laydays while doing it.     

A Dress and a Recap.

Ladies, run, don't walk because this purty dress is on sale.  Nothing like getting $100 off to make a girl feel good.  Right?  Riiiiight?

Did you guys have a good week last week?  It felt so weird (and completely relaxing at the same time, truth be told) to not be near a computer all last week.  I feel so behind on all my blogs, but I'll catch up soon.  I promise!

Here are the top ten things I learned last week:

1) If you pack way ahead of the game, you will over pack.  

2) A person should pack more comfortable/work-out gear if they're planning to head to nature.  Dresses aren't really practical for seven mile hikes.

3) Don't even bother packing the bright pink lipstick.  Chipmunks are not impressed by your saucy lips.

4) Forever be in fear of your father's words: "Just a little farther."

5) Water and sunscreen should never be forgotten on four hour hikes.  (Though a person might be more prepared if they knew in advance of said four hour hike.  See Number 4.)

6) Study the bizarro Scrabble dictionary if you plan on playing with someone who plays Words with Friends with any regularity.  (I still stand by the fact those weirdo two-letter words don't count.)

7) Babies are charming and endlessly entertaining.  Especially when you can leave them with their parents at the end of the day.

8) Retelling old family stories with your family is ALWAYS a blast.

9) Really loud thunder, coyotes, and the dark can be supremely frightening. 

10) When in doubt, keep drinking wine.

In the end, I had a fabulous time with some really fabulous people and it only reinforces the idea that people should vacation just as much as they possibly can!

Also, I really couldn't come up with a better title.   

Neutral Base.

I can't stop thinking how wonderfully neutral this dress is; the color pairs beautifully with anything, especially the super trendy neon.  The pleats and draping make this girl swoon and the way the bottom is cut is oh so flattering to a lady's leg.

I say you can never go wrong with a simple base and this would be a perfect place to start.

Also, there is a Topshop opening not even a block away from my work.  Please help me god.  

Calvin Klein Collection.

Can we talk about how Calvin Klein Collection is constantly knocking it out of the park?

The minute I saw a picture of Zoe Saldana from the Met Gala the other night I knew immediately who designed the dress.  And that's saying a lot for this girl who pays more attention to Target than high-end designers.  But really, the credit must all go to Francisco Costa, the head designer of womenswear at Calvin Klein.

The saturated colors and pliable, yet sturdy fabrics make me swoon.  I can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

Simple Cream.

Sometimes simple is best.

I heart a lovely, linen dress in the summertime and I'm especially drawn to this cream one.  I'm never drawn to cream.  Unless it's on top of some pie.  Badumpcha.

Sorry 'bout that.

Plus, I am forever sold because of pockets. 

Lady in White.

It's been a while since I've posted anything wedding-related.  Right?  I saw this dress and just couldn't stop thinking about it.

I'm not usually one for the simple; this girl loves some adornment and drama, especially when it comes to a wedding dress.  But something about how this skirt flows makes me swoon.  The spaghetti straps don't seem dated and the folding across the bodice is a darling touch of texture.   

It is effortless beauty at its best and any woman should be so lucky.

Lace and Leather.

If only Spring would really come around because I would love to wear this outfit.  Lace and leather.  Yes, please!

ps There was snow on the ground this morning.  Snow!

Edit: Does anyone else feel like it's weird I said "Lace and Leather" instead of "Leather and Lace"?  Twice!  It struck me today as strange.  Just sayin'.    

Color blocking.

I keep seeing this dress pop up and it makes me smile every time I see it.  Though it is certainly not appropriate for my body type; I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to fit even one boob in there.  With that said, I think you should go for it!  It's from Urban Outfitters and pretty inexpensive at $59. 

The sherbet color makes me swoon and juxtaposed against the black and peach it's even more wonderful.  (Or is that navy?  Even better if it's navy!)

Get it!  Get it!  Get it! 

Lady in Red.

I, embarrassingly, used to love that song when I was a kid.  Embarrassing, right?

You know what's not embarrassing?  Loving this red dress.
