Weekend!

Happy Friday, friends!  Can you believe it's October??  I always remember when they'd say that time moves faster the older you get.  Well, Jesus: time is flying.  And I'm not even old.

That scares me.

But what doesn't scare me is that my best gal pal is turning three zero this weekend and we are GOING DANCING!  I can't wait to sip champagne and celebrate Bridg the best way I know how (she always wants to go dancing and I always poo poo it).

I feel very lucky that I have friends in my life that keep me grounded, keep me laughing, and always make me feel loved.  Bridgid, I found you a bit late in the game, but I couldn't be happier having you in my life; simply knowing you're there makes things better.  Thank you for being an incredible friend!

Have a great weekend, ladies!  Drink wine and dance and tell your friends you love them!

Otherwise, read Friday Links:

Pinkin' it with Stripes.

I'm especially drawn to this outfit today.  Doesn't she look killer??  It kinda looks like Beetlejuice got some flava.

It's really too hard for me to choose a favorite part, but if I had to I'd go with the rockin' pink blazer with gold buttons.  BE STILL MY HEART.

I only wish I could see her shoes and bag.  I wonder if they look something like this?  Or maybe something like this?  Or these!  I'm sure whatever they are, they look fab.u.lous.

The Holy Grail.

YOU GUYS.  There will be an auction for a pair of THE ruby slippers*.  As in, Dorothy's actual ruby slippers

If any of you really, truly love me you'd throw in a couple mil to get the job done.  Could you imagine owning these?  The little girl inside me squeals every time I think about it.

The Wizard of Oz is one of my Absolute Most Favorite Movies Ever.  It never fails to entertain and always reminds me of my fabulous childhood.  I have so many memories attached to this movie: my first professional show (I was a poppy and Oz resident at Atlanta's Fox Theatre, thankyouverymuch), my college essay (before Joey Potter wrote hers, thankyouverymuch), not to mention the delicious caramel popcorn my mom would make whenever we watched it (gooey, not crunchy caramel popcorn, thankyouverymuch).

I hope whoever ends up with these pretties appreciates them greatly.

Otherwise I will drop a house on them.

*please know more than one pair of shoes were used in the film, so the Smithsonian does have a pair that is on display** for everyone else in the world who doesn't have three million dollars to throw at a pair of shoes

**on display at the Smithsonian unless they are out on tour, which OF COURSE they were the one time I found myself in DC

Outfit Tuesdays: Cream and Mustard.

Cream and Mustard.

Cream and Mustard. by justagirlandherstuff featuring wingtip shoes

I kinda look like a Vikings fan here, but there's nothing better than some mustard-colored knits in the fall, yes?  Throw in some oxfords and you're good to go.

Also, if you totally disregard the Balenciaga bag, most of these items are affordable.  Wahoo!  And it ain't even a frugal Tuesday.  Give it up, sistah!*

*sorry 'bout that

Even More Fall.

Sixty degrees and rainy, this girl makes it look gooooood.  It also reminds me how much I want a pair of short duck boots

Troy Davis.

It's impossible to find something cute and trivial to blog about when a possibly innocent man is being executed.

Illinois did it.  Georgia, it's your turn.  Please abolish the death penalty!

It is too late for Troy Davis, but let us learn from his story.  Studies show that not only does the death penalty not deter people from committing capital offenses, but also that innocent people have been murdered by our justice system.

One life does not equal another, and eye-for-an-eye is no way to live at all.  The world is watching and we should all be ashamed.

Who Knew I Liked Rustic?

Who wants to buy me an expensive and possibly quite ugly purse

I am SO DRAWN to this buddy and I don't know what to say.  Part of me LOVES it and thinks it would be the perfect pick-me-up in the winter, especially against a staid black coat.  BUT the other part of me thinks that it wouldn't go with anything that I own and I'd look like that kinda ridiculous, always endearing psuedo hippie girl.  Right?

Well, I still love it and think it would make any winter-miser smile.  [I don't know what a winter-miser is.]

I found it through an email Lori's Shoes sent me and they were right up my cozy-loving alley because there were so many items I want to purchase!

I was going to mention and link to a couple that I liked, but then I realized I LIKED THEM ALL!  Of course.  So go here to see all the rustic choices that make my heart go pitter patter.

Outfit Tuesdays: Fall is Here.

Fall is Here.
Fall is Here. by justagirlandherstuff featuring frye shoes

It's officially fall this week and I've decided to embrace it.  In fact, this is my favorite transitional season: when summer turns into fall.  Boots with knee high socks is always an adorable choice and I say you should rock it with skirts as long as you can!

Plus, neutrals with a pop of color will never do you wrong.

Go forth and conquer the fall, my friends!

Let's Talk Emmys.

Did you guys watch??  I did!  Were you as underwhelmed by the dresses as I was?  I mean, come on, ladies!  It's shocking how many bad dresses there are out there, especially when people are paying big bucks for stylists to put them in said bad dresses.  Watching the pre-show coverage was like watching a train wreck for me.  Sooooo, no pretty pictures of pretty ladies in pretty dresses.  Instead I plan on spewing a diatribe of my opinions of the show.  Let's roll...

THE GOOD:

The best part of the entire show, and really of any awards show I've seen in the recent past, was the nominated ladies of Best Actress in a Comedy!  HOW GREAT WAS THAT?!  When Amy Poehler ran up to the stage I just about died and thought it was the greatest thing ever.  But then it got better!  They all ran up to the stage to hold hands in support of one another.  [Well, they were actually parodying beauty pageant contestants, but I won't hold it against them.]  And when Melissa McCarthy won, I was one happy girl.  What a great speech that was and a deserved win for an incredibly funny woman.  I love it!

My second favorite part: COACH TAYLOR WON!!  Yayay!  I was so super excited that Kyle Chandler finally got a shout-out for his wonderful work on Friday Night Lights.  I won't hold it against him that he didn't have a Coach Taylor-esqe speech prepared.  I, too, was shocked that he actually won the award.  [Not that he doesn't completely deserve it -- he does.]

Also great: Chivalry is not dead!  When Margo Martindale won Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and tried to use her hands to crawl up the stairs to accept her award (yikes!) Ed O'Neill rushed from his seat to help her (among other gentleman I couldn't identify immediately), but Ashton Kutcher reached her first.  Thank you, gentleman!  Stay classy.  Seriously.

I'm also a big fan of the first win in a long career.  Margo Martindale, congratulations!

All the Downton Abbey wins!

THE BAD:

Let's stop highlighting the living performers during the In Memorium piece, mmkay?  I realize they messed up by not introducing them in the first place, which made for a bizarre confusion while they sang.  But I don't care about these people and I'm sure the loved ones of those who have passed this year don't either.

Also: Hallelujah is a difficult song to cover.

It pains me to say this, but I so wasn't into what they prepared for Jane Lynch.  I heart that lady and hope she gets some new material soon.

THE UGLY:

Julianna Marguilies' dress.

Enough said.

Friday!

Happy Friday, friends!  My week has been super busy, but it's made it go by faster which is ALWAYS a good thing.  How about you?

The weather has taken a turn for the fall in Chicago and I can't decide how I feel.  Part of me loves this weather.  I heart scarves and layers and feel like it's my best clothes season, BUT (and that's a big but) it means The Cold is coming.

I was talking with a great friend about The Cold recently.  I decided it that I was okay once I was actually in The Cold, but that it was the looming threat of The Cold that killed me.  I can't handle the prospect.  She didn't agree.  She hates The Cold.  Perhaps that's why she lives in the south.

Have a great weekend, my dears!  Go out into the world and make someone smile.

Friday Links:
  • My pre-teen crush is back in an interview!  Who didn't love JTT!
  • Speaking of The Cold... Having to take your snow boots off at parties is super scary because you have to show off your socks -- eeek!  Here are some that will put your heart at ease.
  • Still my favorite pair of shoes I've never purchased AND now they're on sale!
  • Geena Davis is a role model for many reasons (and not just because she is so swoon-worthy in A League of Their Own), but here she talks about gender inequality in children's programming and THAT makes me swoon more than her love for Kit ever could.
  • A snarky yet realistic approach to my true love: wine.  Is that as sad as it sounds to me?

A Blue Birthday (not a sad one).

If you are a size 10 with $134 to spend jump on over to The Outnet because this Halston Heritage dress is on sale and it's gorgeous.  Almost as gorgeous as you would be in it.

I was trying to come up with something a bit more masculine because TODAY is my BROTHER'S BIRTHDAY!!  Sorry, bro.  I'm obviously not very good at the masculine, but I hope you have a fantastic day!

UPDATE:  It's sold out now.  Did one of you guys get it??????  Andrew??

It's coming!

Ugh.  Videos are the bane of my existence.  I KNEW it wouldn't work, so you can GO HERE to watch the bloody thing.

Outfit Tuesdays: Casual Tuesday.

Casual Tuesday.

Casual Tuesday. by justagirlandherstuff featuring fringed shawls

Just a little somethin' something' I threw together.

Transitional weather is always so tough to dress; one day it's warm, the next it's not.  I've found that tying a a shawl/scarf around your bag keeps it close by for when you get a chill.  And, if it doesn't turn chilly, you've got a cute accessory.  Voila!  Transitional dressing.

If you want to see something not so casual feel free to hop over to The Pink and Blue Blog -- I promise I'll be there today (per yesterday's post)!

It's the weekend.

It's Friday!

Sorry I left you hanging yesterday, it's been tough finding inspiration lately and I just decided to call it quits after searching for too long.  And I'm leaving you without Friday Links today.  Perhaps the weekend will rejuvenate me.

What are you guys up to this weekend?  I'm hoping to relax and maybe take a bath (though probably not because bathing in apartment bathtubs makes me feel rillll uncomfortable).  Perhaps a metaphorical bath in my future.

Extended Weekend!

Happy Friday, friends!  The beginning of the week FLEW BY annnnd then we hit Wednesday and I felt like my life was in slow motion.  As if everything was paced in caramel.  BUT.  We have a three-day weekend on our hands and I couldn't be happier 'bout it!  I have birthday parties and eyebrow waxes and sleep, sleep, sleep planned.  How about you?

I was going to say, "And, as always," then lead you to Friday Links, but realized it would be a LIE.  I haven't always done that.  In fact, I've only done them twice!  For shame.

Cats.

This made me laugh.

And this is all I've got.  My computer is at 8% battery life and I can't find the inspiration.  For something else.  Anything else.  So, a random cat pin it shall be.

TOMORROW. IS. FRIDAY.
